Incident

Issues Opening the Slack App version 25.09.40 on Android

incident done Summary

Starting around 7:30 PM PDT until approximately 10:18 PM PDT on September 19, 2025, some users on Android were experiencing app crashes when attempting to launch Slack.

At approximately 5:40 PM PDT on September 20, 2025, we received several reports of Android users experiencing this issue and began our incident response process.

We traced the issue back to a specific app version, 25.09.40, where users would encounter a crash upon startup. This version contained a bug related to improperly loading elements within the Android app, which caused the crashes. We immediately reverted the change and released a fix, which resolved the issue for all users in the latest app version.

However, due to standard app update processes, the fix did not immediately reach some users who were already on the impacted version of Slack for Android, requiring those users to update to the latest version to resolve the issue.

2:50 PM PST

Resolved

Our investigations have revealed that users experiencing issues opening the application on Android are using an older version of the Slack app (version 25.09.40.0-90014875) from the Play Store. Users will need to update to the latest version 25.09.40.0-90014876 of the Slack app.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.
